Commentary:
The King and His Kingdom (Emma Summerour)
Throughout scripture, we see Jesus described as the “King of Kings”, “Son of the Most High”, a “Great King”, sitting on the throne of a prosperous kingdom with no end.
Yet, He is also called “humble”, “lowly”, and a “servant”. The Creator, Lord of the Universe, the Most High, shed His rightful glory to come to earth with the purpose of being the atoning sacrifice for our sins. He showed how much He loved us by taking the place we deserve, enduring death by being nailed to a cross.
This wonderful, loving God, our King, willingly wore a crown made of thorns instead of a crown of glory. When He resurrected, He showed that He had authority over even death, taking victory over sin. He completely reigns.
Since He is the ultimate King, He has the authority to declare you His special, redeemed, and holy child. Jesus didn't have His life taken from Him, but He laid it down of His own will. For you. For me. He had the authority to lay His life down, and the power to take it again (John 10:17-18)! There is absolutely nothing that He is not King over. There is no sin you can commit that He can not completely cleanse you of. Nothing you can do to make Him not love you. What’s more, there is no worry or pain in your life that He does not have under His authority. Our amazing King cares deeply about our struggles. If He cared enough to die to rescue you from sin, wouldn't He care about everything that goes on in your life? Every big thing, every little thing; He reigns over all.
There is no King like Jesus. There is no one as Mighty, no one as Holy, no one as Wonderful as He. No one loves us as deeply as He does. Our King IS love (1 John 4:8.)
Prayer & Reflection:
King Jesus, you are the only one who deserves our whole-hearted worship. Help us to see how wonderful You are. Help us to submit to You. Give us hearts that love you more than anything and exalt you as King in our lives. We can do nothing without you. Thank you for humbling yourself for us. We love you!
